ABSTRACT DESIGN:

Double Layer Glass paintings inspired by Rumi's Poetry

These glass paintings were inspired by a 13th century poet, jurist, theologian and a sufi mystic, Rumi.  His love of the divine was his main theme in most of his poetry.  They range in size, from 3'ftx3'ft to 2'ftx2'ft.

They are two panels of glass in front of one another, joined together with one inch spacers.  They can be displayed in front of a window or a light behind them or a light underneath them, they can be hang with chains from the ceiling or placed on a table.

Two panels of glass in front of one another represent layers of human beings.  We all have an external layer that we show to the world and a hidden layer that we protect.  The whole meaning of the painting was that in order to get to know one another, we have to invest time looking and exploring the layer behind the frontal layer.  In order to fall in love, we have to accept the colors we don't like with the colors we love.  These paintings took a life of their own when an LED light that changed color was placed underneath them at the exhibition and as the LED light changed color, the paintings changed, as if they were dancing and flirting with the rhythm of life.

The Exhibition of the paintings below was called "Al-Batin, THE HIDDEN".
